The BASC Shotgun Coach Award will enable you to offer a service of practical shooting advice and tuition to
members and non-members alike.
BASC realises that there is a demand for a formal training scheme for teachers of shotgun shooting both for
those who wish to appear as BASC coaches at shows and events and others who want to obtain the award
purely for their own benefit.
Part of the Award is a module of a City & Guilds recognised certificate in training and development. Once
gained, the L12 Coaching Award stays with you indefinitely although your BASC registration requires
renewal every 3 years by assessment.

YOU ARE NOW A BASC COACH
1 TRAINING WITH MENTOR
After receiving an information pack from BASC you will have a list of Mentors in your area to contact.
The contract and costs for this first part of the training are between your chosen Mentor and
yourself. The registration fee to BASC on commencement of your training is £45, which includes a
coaching manual. Once an awareness of the standard required is reached your Mentor will recommend
you for the pre-assessment day.
2 PRE-ASSESSMENT DAY WITH BASC
The pre-assessment day is designed to prepare you for the live assessments. You are required to be
a member of BASC before being accepted on a pre-assessment day. No charge is made for this day.
3 CITY & GUILDS
Once recommended for assessment you will be required to register with City & Guilds. The certificate
awarded when passed is City & Guilds 7318, Unit L12 - Enable Individual Learning Through
Coaching. The registration fee to City & Guilds is currently £230.
4 PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT AT LIVE EVENTS
A BASC Assessor will observe your coaching ability at a live event. The course requires that you
attend up to a maximum of 6 live events for assessment but once you pass three consecutively you
need not do any more.
5 PORTFOLIO BUILDING DAY
Once the course has successfully been completed a portfolio of evidence of your performance as a
shotgun coach is to be submitted to City & Guilds. This day will help you create your portfolio to
the required standard.
